Arnault Shrugs, French Outraged

Over in France, they’ve elected a socialist.

His name is François Hollande.

Hollande will soon implement a 75% tax on incomes that exceed 1 million Euros.

If you were being penalized by this kind of tax, don’t you think you’d be looking for a more amiable, wealth-friendly place to live?

I know I would.

And thus comes the unsurprising news that the richest man in France, Bernard Arnault, founder of the luxury brand Louis Vuitton, is actively seeking citizenship in Belgium.

Arnault claims he is not seeking Belgian citizenship to dodge taxes. But no matter how you look at it, avoiding taxes has to be high on Mr. Arnault’s priority list seeing as he’s worth about $41 billion.

After all, if Prime Minister Hollande starts with a 75% tax on income, where does it end? The confiscation of private assets for “the benefit of the state”?

Anyway, the French are outraged that Arnault would leave the country to avoid the confiscation of his wealth. One headline screamed “Get Lost You Rich Idiot.”

It’s clear the French think Arnault is an idiot. And yet only an idiot would stay put and let a socialist government steal his hard-earned wealth.

No, it is the self-righteous French who are the idiots — and they’re about to start paying for their stupidity.

As entrepreneurs and capital flee the country, guess who will be left to pay all those taxes Hollande wants?

The poor and middle class, of course… the ones who demanded that the rich “pay their fair share.”

It’s the same old story over and over again. People without much money want to steal it from those who have it via proxy.

In the end, the average voter is not much different than a common criminal. But rather than wielding a gun, the average voter wields the collective power of the federal government and the military behind it.

Thankfully, there is a better way to get what you want out of life.

It’s called persuasion.

And one of the most powerful forms of persuasion is the written word.
